We offer several extracurricular activities for our students. These activities permit our students to try new things, meet new people, develop their creativity, and increase their activity level.
The 5th grade Safety Patrols assist in maintaining the safety of the school. Students are selected twice a year through a lottery. Students who are interested in serving as a patrol apply at the end of their 4th grade year or at the end of the fall semester during their 5th grade year. Patrols are role models and an example of appropriate behavior for the other children at BCE. They serve a period of 18 weeks.
The Safety Patrols also participate in activities to serve our community. In the past, they've volunteered at the Houston Food Bank; as well as provided baked goods for the SBISD Police Department, local Houston Fire Station, and the BCE teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week.

In order to foster strong relationships and start each morning with a positive relationship, our counselor initiated the Bison Greeter program. Our greeters can wave, high five, fist bump, shake hands, hug, or simply wish everyone a good morning as they enter BCE.

Through a partnership with the SBISD Student Wellness and Athletics departments, our fifth grade students have the opportunity to attend secondary athletic events to support our feeder schools, Northbrook Middle and Northbrook High School. In the past, our students have attended volleyball, football, basketball, and soccer games.
During these events, our students are provided a glimpse into the lives of secondary students. They are introduced to the athletic, band, drill team, and cheerleading worlds.

The SBISD Student Wellness and Athletics department provided a once in a lifetime opportunity by creating a partnership with the Baller Foundation to bring the Baller Academy to BCE and 13 other campuses during the Spring 2018 semester. Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade took part in an 8-week soccer program coached by Coach Mike Boeck. The students attended soccer camps and exhibition evenings.

YMCA Water Safety and Swim Lessons
Through a partnership with the Brenda and John Duncan YMCA, our students in 1st and 2nd grade take part in free water safety and swim classes. Second grade students attend the lessons during the fall semester, and 1st grade students attend in the spring. We've partnered with the YMCA for over 20 years, and a few former students have gone on to work at the Duncan YMCA as swim instructors for our students.

Art Club is an opportunity for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to work on extended art projects in a small group setting. Art Club is an environment of fun and creative learning. We aim to foster students’ imagination and encourage them to experiment with various media, while expressing themselves as they explore every part of their artistic experience. If your child has a passion for art and thinking outside of the box, Art Club is for them!

Choir is open to all students in 4th and 5th grade who love to sing. Matching pitch and good behavior are the most important qualifications to be a choir member. Students have special choir shirts and travel to sing to area nursing homes and businesses at Christmas. The choir goes to the Spring Branch Elementary Choir Festival in the spring to sing with other choirs from neighboring schools.
