Extracurricular

We offer several extracurricular activities for our students. These activities permit our students to try new things, meet new people, develop their creativity, and increase their activity level.

Safety Patrols

BuffaloCreekElementary

The 5th grade Safety Patrols assist in maintaining the safety of the school. Students are selected twice a year through a lottery. Students who are interested in serving as a patrol apply at the end of their 4th grade year or at the end of the fall semester during their 5th grade year. Patrols are role models and an example of appropriate behavior for the other children at BCE. They serve a period of 18 weeks.

The Safety Patrols also participate in activities to serve our community. In the past, they've volunteered at the Houston Food Bank; as well as provided baked goods for the SBISD Police Department, local Houston Fire Station, and the BCE teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week.

Advanced Movers

BCE Advanced Movers

Through a partnership with the SBISD Student Wellness and Athletics departments, our fifth grade students have the opportunity to attend secondary athletic events to support our feeder schools, Northbrook Middle and Northbrook High School. In the past, our students have attended volleyball, football, basketball, and soccer games.

During these events, our students are provided a glimpse into the lives of secondary students. They are introduced to the athletic, band, drill team, and cheerleading worlds.

YMCA Water Safety and Swim Lessons

Through a partnership with the Brenda and John Duncan YMCA, our students in 1st and 2nd grade take part in free water safety and swim classes. Second grade students attend the lessons during the fall semester, and 1st grade students attend in the spring. We've partnered with the YMCA for over 20 years, and a few former students have gone on to work at the Duncan YMCA as swim instructors for our students.
