Fifth Grade Objective:
Our goal is to create life long problem solvers.
~ In Mathematics students will learn about place value, operations, fractions, decimals, measurement, geometry, probability and statistics. It is mandatory for fifth graders to master all of the math facts.
~ In Science we utilize many different tools and methods to teach science concepts such as, Shake and Learn, FOSS Kits, Science Saturdays and Kamico games.
~ In Social Studies we will focus on US history from the beginning in the 1600s to the end of the 20th century and understand the concepts behind critical events in US history is vital. We incorporate reading and LA objectives within the SS curriculum.
~ In 5th grade we integrate the Language Arts curriculum with the science and social studies curriculum. 5th graders research various topics. They learn how to take notes, paraphrase, and present information in a multitude of ways. Fifth graders will use journals to monitor their thinking and responses to literature through book clubs and independent reading. They are given opportunities to share opinions through discussions with their peers.
